WE FICTION & PRIVATE RITE

2009 — PRODUCTIONS

In WeFiction the dancers’ personal memories are brought to life in a stunningly theatrical and energetic physical performance. In Private Rite the dancers’ performances become an obsession with the search for the perfect dance work.

WeFiction emerged from a creative dialogue between the choreographer and the dancers, resulting in this beautiful production where the characters gradually emerge as they dance in pursuit of their own memories. Composer Nathaniel Reed contributed an original sound score, inspired by Norwegian folk music and the intangible nature of memories.

Private Rite was choreographed by one of Canada’s foremost and most well-known choreographers, Hélène Blackburn. Hélène created a tight, but simultaneously humorous and entertaining production containing elements of surprise. The audience is invited along on a journey into the daily ritual of the dancers – in search of the perfect dance work.

The show premiered at the House of Dance in Oslo during CODA Oslo International Dance Festival in 2009. Since then, the show has been on an extensive national and international tour, visiting countries such as Lithuania, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Tanzania, England, Sweden, Poland, Russia and France.

“…the show was marvellous… Our audience was held in awe and delight.”
Syd Simmons, Head of Drama at Gillingham College
