Talents 2019
The dance artists who will be part of TILT Grow 2019 have been selected – see who they are here!
TILT Grow 2019 is divided into three parts and offers a total of ten performers:
“This year we have tailored the project for the Innlandet region and at the same time safeguarded an artistic ambition to create exciting dance art together with exceptional performers”, says leader of Panta Rei Dance Theater (PRD), Anne Holck Ekenes.
All ten dancers in the various parts of TILT Grow will be offered their own mentor through 2019, and will have the opportunity to participate in a series of seminars that will be held at Dansens Hus in Oslo and Hamar Kulturhus. In addition, there are some variations between the groups:
THERESE SLOB
Therese is a graduate of the Oslo Academy of the Arts and has studied at Kate Simmons School of Dance in England. As a dancer, she has, among other things, played Kattrin in “Mother Courage and her children” at the Norwegian Theater and danced in “Survival” by B-Braza Productions. She has choreographed and co-produced with Teater Innlandet “I will Never Fix you”, “Grisebondens Kunst” and “Hello”, which has also toured in Den kulturelle skolesekken and been shown during the Hedda Days and other festivals.
Therese has recently choreographed “Jungelboken” for Teater Innlandet and Riksteateret, and is the initiator of MOVE Dansefestival, Vandreforestillingingen “Dans på stien” and co-founder of DansINN. In addition, she and Ruben-Arie Slob run the dance studio Ps: Dance in Hamar with approx. 700 children and young people.
NORA SVENNING
Nora is a graduate of KHiO, BA Classical Ballet (06-09) and the Norwegian Opera Ballet School (00-06). After graduating, she spent a year with the Cannes Jeune Ballet in France, and has since worked as a freelancer based in Oslo. She first worked with Panta Rei in 2017, and has otherwise worked with choreographers such as Hallgrim Hansegård / Frikar, Sølvi Edvardsen, Elle Sofe Henriksen, Sudesh Adhana and Tine Aspaas.
ANDERS ROHLAN SMÅHAUG
Anders (born 1990) is a professional dancer and dance artist from Asker. He has his education from Spin Off Preliminary Studies in Dance (2013-14) and the Oslo Academy of the Arts, Ballet Academy / Department of Dance, (2014-17). He graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in contemporary dance, and after studying has participated in workshops and worked as a freelance dance artist. He has collaborated with choreographers, choreographed his own works, and performed in Norway and Denmark. In 2018, he collaborated with the Sparebankstiftelsen DNB, Sentralen and Den Norske Opera & Ballett under «På tå hev – sentralen». This was an interdisciplinary traveling performance in co-production between Sentralen and the Norwegian Opera & Ballet.
Anders collaborates with Spin Off – pre-study in dance, and has been directing and production assistant for, among other things, Open Stage 2018. In October he was on tour with the play “Flinch” by Roza Moshtaghi, which was shown at the Concert Church in Copenhagen, The dance halls. He is also one of the trainees in the Actor – and Dancer Alliance’s mentoring program 18/19.
Anders is interested in working artistically to make dance visible in society, and give the population greater ownership of dance as an art form. He is also interested in experimenting with the perception we and the general population have of dance. Anders is looking forward to being a part of TILT Grow 2019, where he can help produce and disseminate innovative and challenging performing arts beyond the stage edge!
EMILIE MARIE KARLSEN
Emilie is a graduate of the Northern School of Contemporary in Leeds, England (2013-16). She was previously part of the youth company “På tå hev” (2011-12) at the Norwegian Opera & Ballet and studied for one year at Spin Off Preliminary Studies in Dance (2012-13). Following her studies, she has been periodically based in England and in 2016 had her first job with Jamaal Burkmar, winner of the “New Adventures Choreography Award” (2016).
In 2017, she became part of the Joss Arnott Dance Company where she toured 21 cities in England in the autumn -17 and spring -18. After that, she has collaborated with Sparebankstiftelsen DNB, Sentralen and Den Norske Opera & Ballett in the project «På Tå Hev – Sentralen». The project resulted in an interdisciplinary walking performance performed in May 2018. Between these projects, she has worked with Rina Rosenqvist in her play “MASS” which has previously been shown on two occasions in Oslo and during the “LunGa” festival in Seydisfjordur, (2018). «MASS» will be programmed during the choreography laboratory at the dance house in May 2019, where Emilie will participate.
Therese Slob, Nora Svenning, Anders Rohland Småhaug and Emilie Marie Karlsen:
Must be co-creative performers in a co-production with Teater Innlandet. The performance premieres on 14 September.
Will be project managers and workshop owners in TILT where they meet the local population ahead of the tour of PRD’s co-production with Teater Innlandet.
KRISTINE BERGET
Kristine (born 1992) is a dance artist educated at The Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts. She currently resides in London, where she has lived and worked as a performing dancer for the past 3.5 years after finishing school in Liverpool. She is originally from Ringebu in Gudbrandsdalen, and discovered her passion for dance through local projects in the valley.
As part of her experience as a freelancer, Kristine has worked in various sectors of the British dance industry, including dancing in the video “Big God” for Florence + The Machine (choreographed by Akram Khan, 2018) and the production “Project Rebel” (choreographed by Kenrick Sandy and shown at the Barbican, 2019) in collaboration with Boy Blue Entertainment. She is part of The Ashton Collective (since 2015, led by Thomas Ashton), a dance collective with roots in contemporary dance that has produced its own dance theater works since 2013, and Boy Blue Entertainment (since 2016, led by Kenrick Sandy), a hip hop company which in addition to offering extended training opportunities for young and professional dancers, is also a house company at The Barbican and has been producing his own works since 2001.
Kristine produced her own performance while studying at the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts, and toured this production in Norway in the summer of 2015. In addition to this, Kristine has developed several solos and creative works for video in collaboration with photo and videographer Erik Berg- Johansen.
MINDA MARIE KALFOSS
Minda Marie (born 1989) is a dance artist, living in Oslo. She is a graduate of the University of Stavanger, the Escola Superior de Danca in Lisbon and the Peridance Capezio Center in New York. As part of her freelance work, Minda Marie has produced two of her own performances, as well as performing for other choreographers. Her latest solo work is based on a score by Janne-Camilla Lyster, called “Blue Hunter”. Minda is also part of Living Movement, led by Karen Høybakk Mikalsen.
In the spring of 2019, Minda Marie will complete her master’s degree in drama and theater communication at OsloMet. In her master’s work, she immerses herself in the work of dance artists who produce self-written text and include this in her choreographic work, as she herself does.
FRIDA VORGAARD
Frida (born 1994) comes from Lismarka and went to the dance line at Stange high school. It was here that Frida became acquainted with the concept of choreography, which has remained an important part of her as a dance artist. She took a BA in modern dance at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of music and dance in London (graduated in 2016). Then she came to Hamar and worked for PS: Dance and the culture school in Ringsaker as a dance teacher and freelancer.
Frida has participated in a number of projects, including a self-made solo “I generalsjoner” (2016) in a potato cellar at Atlundstad under the direction of TILT, and the collaboration with Karoline Amb as both dancer and choreographer. In addition, she works for the job as an instructor where the focus is on working preventively with people who work a lot of sedentary or static. Being able to improve people’s everyday life by using movement and dance gives great joy.
INGVILD MARSTEIN OLSEN
Ingvild (born 1993) works as a performer and choreographer between Norway and London. She is a graduate of Trinity Laban with a Master in Dance Performance and a Bachelor in Contemporary Dance.
Ingvild has an interest in the intersection between movement, feminism and improvisational work, as well as creating a collaboration between different art forms and technology. She has created the solo “In series” which asks questions about the trend ‘selfie’, where technology plays a big part in the work. In the period 2016-18, she, together with two other dance artists, developed the performance SMACK – a multimedia choreography that has been performed in Norway, Switzerland and England. Ingvild has also worked with choreographers such as; Rahel Vonmoos, Pell Ensemble, IJAD Dance Company and Dog Kennel Hill Project.
Ingvild is currently working on a new and exciting project, PROJECT OI OI OI, which was initiated in collaboration with dance artist Olivia Edginton. In recent years, Ingvild has worked actively to bring dance to the Inland and is really looking forward to being a part of TILT Grow.
Kristine Berget, Minda Marie Kalfoss, Frida Vorgaard, Ingvild Marstein Olsen:
Will be choreographers and performers in their own solos that are shown during walking performances in the TILT 2019 project. They are supervised by the mentor and PRD’s leadership in the preparation of the solo.
Will be project managers and workshop owners in TILT where they meet the locals in advance of the tour to PRD’s co-production with Teater Innlandet and their own solo.
JOMO SILVEIRA
Jomo (born 1979, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) has his education in performing arts and dance from UERJ / dance, in Rio de Janeiro. As a committed and professional educator and choreographer, he always puts his own and others’ development in focus. His experience also extends beyond dance and creative body expression; teaching, artistic management, music videos, consulting and project management within public cultural projects.
Jomo has a great passion for innovative, creative and business-oriented ideas and projects. He is a co-owner of Kulturhjerte AS, which helps to integrate children, children, adults and families with different cultural backgrounds through various cultural activities. Jomo also works as a football agent and sells football players around the world. But dance, theater and performing arts will always be an important part of his culture and lifestyle.
HANNA EIKLI
Hanna (born 1988) originally comes from Sarpsborg, and attended the dance line at Kirkeparken upper secondary school in Moss. After this she took her education as a musical artist at Bårdar Academy in Oslo. She has taught dance since she was a teenager, and has been an instructor, choreographer and dancer in many different contexts.
In recent years, she has worked as a dance teacher on the dance line at Hedmarktoppen Folk High School, and as a jazz teacher and coordinator at Ps: Dance Studio in Hamar. Hanna likes both singing and dancing, and loves musicals.
She has been responsible for several performances with children and young people, and started the musical project at Ps: Dance, a group where young people put on a performance every six months. Hanna teaches musicals and jazz, and otherwise works as a project manager and coordinator in various projects Ps: Dance is responsible for, or is involved in – including the MOVE dance festival in Hamar.
